UPDATE:The 4th edition of the ZN Lovers Sopa de Letras event went off successfully.. I passed through on the Sunday and took some pictures of the impressive wall, which was nearing completion.
The fourth edition of ZN Lovers Sopa de Letras event takes place at the weekend, which means there will be a lot of the cities graffiti artists together painting on the same wall. This is an event that aims to maintain the very Brazilian type of graffiti which began towards the end of the 90s, using only latex paint and rollers, artists get together to fill a wall with their names all joined up (see pic right)
This edition promises a massive 80 artists, and also the High Public Sound System will be providing music for the event on the Sunday, while DJs and MCs will be there on Saturday. There will be graffiti workshops ran by Icone-K (Saturday 29th) and by Bless Graffiti (Sunday 30th). There will also be food trucks and support from a number of business’s as well as the city council.
As an added bonus it is an easy 10 minute walk from Santana Metro station in North Sao Paulo, which if you are not familiar with the area, then it is a great reason to get out at Carandiru and check out the Open Air Museum of Urban Art (MAAU), and also stroll around the Parque de Juventude..both excellent graffiti spotting locations. Following the MAAU up from Carandiru to Santana station leads you to the site of the Sopa de Letras.. sounds like a perfect day for graffiti fans.
